Basic Law Enforcement Sniper/Observer Course
 
FEE: $717.00

LOCATION: Alameda County Sheriff's Office-Firearms Training Unit, 5301 Madigan Road, Dublin CA 94568 [MAP]

DESCRIPTION:  This 48-hour course is designed to provide law enforcement officers with the essential skills, knowledge and techniques required to operate as a sniper/observer within a tactical setting.  This comprehensive training will cover the fundamentals of long-range precision shooting, fieldcraft, observation techniques, and the critical decision-making processes involved in high-risk operations. 

INSTRUCTORS:  Instructors include current and former members of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Unit.  These instructors have received extensive firearms and tactical training from some of the nation’s most recognized instructors and have competed in international shooting and tactics competitions.

PREREQUISITES:  This course is not a basic rifle school.  This course is physically and mentally demanding.  Students must be full-time peace officers or active-duty military personnel that have been selected by their respective agency to attend this course.  All students must have completed a Basic SWAT Course and must be currently assigned to a tactical unit.  All students must have excellent rifle marksmanship skills and a working knowledge of the weapons system they will be using during this course.  All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office must sign a liability waiver.

COURSE HOURS:  This is a 48-hour course that begins at 0800 on the first day.  There will be one night session that will begin at 1300 hours.  The final day of the course is on a Saturday.

CERTIFICATION: POST Plan IV.  POST Cert #1010-23020.

COLLEGE CREDITS: 2.0 Chabot College Units on completion of course.

    First, secure your spot by registering and paying directly through our website. The payment goes to us, not to the college.
  2. Apply to Chabot College:
    After registering with us, you must apply separately to Chabot College for course credit. Visit the Chabot College website at Chabot College to complete the application process. For best results, use Google Chrome when applying.
  3. Send Application Information:
    Once your application to the college is complete, email the following details to CC-ACSOAcademy@chabotcollege.edu:
    • Subject Line: (Insert Course Title and Start Date)
    • Your Full Name
    • Application Confirmation Number
    • Your Birthdate (MM/DD/YYYY)

This process is necessary to receive 2.0 Chabot College units upon successful completion of the course.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

 A department-issued rifle with optic, capable of maintaining one minute of angle accuracy.

TESTING:  Each participant must successfully pass the American Sniper Association Sniper Functional Fitness Test.  This test will be administered on Day One.  Failure to pass the minimum standard for this test will result in removal from the course.  A copy of this test will be sent to students upon registration for the course.

Students must pass a written test with a minimum score of 80%.

Each student must also successfully pass the final training exercise on Day Six with a minimum passing score of 80%.  Students who do not pass their first attempt will be given one remediation attempt.  The student may select a new spotter for their remediation.  Failure to pass the remediation will result in a failure of the course.

CONFIRMATION EMAILS: A confirmation email will be sent out a month prior to the course. If no response is received two weeks before the start date, you will be dropped from the course.

PAYMENT POLICY: As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance the experience for all students, we are implementing a new policy regarding tuition payments. All course tuition must be paid in full prior to the start of class. Payments should be completed no later than the first day of class. If payment is not received by this date, the individual may be asked to reschedule or defer attendance until payment is received.

Tuition payments can be made online during the course registration process. Alternatively, payments can be made by phone or in person on the first day of class. We accept cash, check, or credit card as suitable forms of payment. Please note that a 2.49% non-refundable service fee will apply to all credit card transactions.

We strongly encourage early payment to avoid any disruptions to your enrollment.

CANCELLING REGISTRATION:  To cancel a registration for a course, please notify the Regional Training Center via e-mail or phone. E-mail cancellations can be directed to rtcinfo@sheriffacademy.com and phone cancellations to (925) 551-6970. In all cases, course cancellations less than 5 business days' prior to class start date, may be subject to a course cancellation fee equal to 50% of the course tuition. Students who fail to attend the course without cancelling prior to the start of the course (No Show) will be charged the full course tuition.
