Internal Affairs Investigation
 
FEE: $335.00

LOCATION: Alameda County Sheriff's Office - Regional Training Center, 6289 Madigan Road, Dublin CA 94568 [MAP]

This Internal Affairs Investigation Course provides the the law enforcement professional the necessary skills to perform an effective, thorough and defensible internal affairs investigation.  The course facilitators utilize facilitated discussion, small group activities, case studies and real-life scenarios. Students are encouraged to bring a lap-top computer and their agency’s internal affairs investigation policy.   Students will receive all course content electronically.

During this 24-hour course students will:

  • identify the theory, purpose, and impact of Internal Affairs Units
  • evaluate management, labor and legal priorities
  • formulate investigative skills and techniques related to successfully conducting and completing a fair, impartial and ethical internal affairs investigation

Students must successfully complete a practical skills application during a scenario on the third day of the course.

PREREQUISITES:  Registration is limited to law enforcement professionals who are currently employed with a California Law Enforcement Agency.  Students must currently be assigned, pending an assignment, or be responsible for conducting Internal Affairs investigations for their agency.

PRESENTATION DATES & HOURS: This is a three day, 24-hour course.  Course hours are 0800-1700 hours each day.  See below for dates available. For information please call (925)551-6970.

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:  Students are strongly encouraged to bring their agency internal affairs policy and all related forms including admonishments and all interview notices. Student dress code at the Regional Training Center is business casual.  No shorts, sleeveless shirts or open toed shoes are permitted.

RESERVATIONS: This course is limited to 30 students and reservations will be made on a first come, first served basis. Use the "Register for Class" link to submit reservations on-line. The Regional Training Center is now only allowing 2 spots per agency due to the high demand.  If you need more spots, please email us at rtcinfo@sheriffacademy.com for approval. If you need information, please call (925) 551-6970. 

CERTIFICATION:  This class is POST Plan IV Certified.  POST Cert #1010-32100.

COLLEGE CREDITS: 1.5 Chabot College Units on completion of course.

Important Steps for Enrollment:

  1. Register on Our Website:
    First, secure your spot by registering and paying directly through our website. The payment goes to us, not to the college.
  2. Apply to Chabot College:
    After registering with us, you must apply separately to Chabot College for course credit. Visit the Chabot College website at Chabot College to complete the application process. For best results, use Google Chrome when applying.
  3. Send Application Information:
    Once your application to the college is complete, email the following details to CC-ACSOAcademy@chabotcollege.edu:
    • Subject Line: (Insert Course Title and Start Date)
    • Your Full Name
    • Application Confirmation Number
    • Your Birthdate (MM/DD/YYYY)

This process is necessary to receive 1.5 Chabot College units upon successful completion of the course.

PAYMENT POLICY: As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance the experience for all students, we are implementing a new policy regarding tuition payments. All course tuition must be paid in full prior to the start of class. Payments should be completed no later than the first day of class. If payment is not received by this date, the individual may be asked to reschedule or defer attendance until payment is received.

Tuition payments can be made online during the course registration process. Alternatively, payments can be made by phone or in person on the first day of class. We accept cash, check, or credit card as suitable forms of payment. Please note that a 2.49% non-refundable service fee will apply to all credit card transactions.

We strongly encourage early payment to avoid any disruptions to your enrollment.

CANCELLING REGISTRATION:  To cancel a registration for a course, please notify the Regional Training Center via e-mail or phone. E-mail cancellations can be directed to rtcinfo@sheriffacademy.com and phone cancellations to (925) 551-6970. In all cases, course cancellations less than 5 business days' prior to class start date, may be subject to a course cancellation fee equal to 50% of the course tuition. Students who fail to attend the course without cancelling prior to the start of the course (No Show) will be charged the full course tuition.
