Firearms/Tactical Rifle for First Responder
 
FEE: $339.00

LOCATION: Alameda County Sheriff's Office-Firearms Training Unit, 5301 Madigan Road, Dublin CA 94568 [MAP]

DESCRIPTION: This 24-hour course is designed to train individuals in the use of the patrol rifle or carbine. Some of the topics covered are rifle safety, marksmanship, zeroing procedures, firing positions, ballistics, reloading drills, malfunction drills, proper use of the rifle sling, basic tactics, low light engagements, and cover. Each attendee will be required to demonstrate proper usage and safe handling of the rifle. This class was previously called Firearms/Basic Rifle Carbine Operator.

NOTE: This course meets the P.O.S.T. and Penal Code requirements per Section 33220(b) PC.

PREREQUISITES: This course has both physical and mental components that will be challenging. Students must be full-time peace officers or active-duty military personnel. All students who are not members of the Alameda County Sheriff's Office must sign a liability waiver.

PRESENTATION HOURS: This is a 24-hour course that starts at 0800 on the first day of the course. The second day is a night session and will start at 1300.

POST CERTIFICATION: POST Plan II. POST Cert #1010-32175

COLLEGE CREDITS: 0.50 Chabot College Units on completion of course.

Important Steps for Enrollment:

  1. Register on Our Website:
    First, secure your spot by registering and paying directly through our website. The payment goes to us, not to the college.
  2. Apply to Chabot College:
    After registering with us, you must apply separately to Chabot College for course credit. Visit the Chabot College website at Chabot College to complete the application process. For best results, use Google Chrome when applying.
  3. Send Application Information:
    Once your application to the college is complete, email the following details to CC-ACSOAcademy@chabotcollege.edu:
    • Subject Line: (Insert Course Title and Start Date)
    • Your Full Name
    • Application Confirmation Number
    • Your Birthdate (MM/DD/YYYY)

This process is necessary to receive 0.50 Chabot College units upon successful completion of the course.

 REQUIRED EQUIPMENT: 

  • Agency approved patrol rifle (AR-15/M-16 recommended) with sling.
  • 1200 rounds of factory ammunition for rifle.
  • Three - 30 round magazines for the rifle.
  • Weapon mounted / handheld flashlight and spare batteries.
  • Agency approved duty handgun with duty belt and holster.
  • Three magazines for handgun.
  • 100 rounds factory ammunition for handgun.
  • Cleaning equipment for both weapons.
  • Body armor and/or tactical outer carrier.
  • Eye and ear protection.
  • Gas mask
  • Agency approved BDU uniform SHALL be worn with hat.
  • Optional equipment includes Hydration system, knee and elbow pads, and sunscreen.

Note:  All equipment utilized and worn must be authorized in their agency’s policies.

CERTIFICATION STANDARDS:  Students must shoot minimum score of 70% (210/300 points) on the rifle qualification by the end of the course.  Students must also pass a written test with a passing score of 70% on the last day.  Students who fail to meet the minimum proficiency standards will not be issued a certificate for successful completion.

Below is the qualification standard required to successfully complete this course:

RIFLE QUALIFICATION COURSE

Target: ACSO-21 Silhouette

Ammunition: 60 rounds (Starting magazine has 10 rounds, all other magazine can be fill to capacity).

 

CONFIRMATION EMAILS: A confirmation email will be sent out a month prior to the course. If no response is received two weeks before the start of clourse, you will be dropped from the course.

RESERVATIONS: This course is limited to 24 students and reservations will be made on a first come, first serve basis. If you need additional information please call Range Technician Lynn Frost, at (925) 803-7131 or lfrost@acgov.org.

PAYMENT POLICY: As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance the experience for all students, we are implementing a new policy regarding tuition payments. All course tuition must be paid in full prior to the start of class. Payments should be completed no later than the first day of class. If payment is not received by this date, the individual may be asked to reschedule or defer attendance until payment is received.

Tuition payments can be made online during the course registration process. Alternatively, payments can be made by phone or in person on the first day of class. We accept cash, check, or credit card as suitable forms of payment. Please note that a 2.49% non-refundable service fee will apply to all credit card transactions.

We strongly encourage early payment to avoid any disruptions to your enrollment.

CANCELLING REGISTRATION:  To cancel a registration for a course, please notify the Regional Training Center via e-mail or phone. E-mail cancellations can be directed to rtcinfo@sheriffacademy.com and phone cancellations to (925) 551-6970. In all cases, course cancellations less than 5 business days' prior to class start date, may be subject to a course cancellation fee equal to 50% of the course tuition. Students who fail to attend the course without cancelling prior to the start of the course (No Show) will be charged the full course tuition.
